Conway Hi, I'm Lizzie, a female shepard mix. I'm younger pup of ten monthes and I already know how to act on a leash. I also know how to sit, but my other commands need work. However, if your the right person for me, I'm sure I could learn fast for you. I like other dogs. Especially the little ones you eat called hot or sausage. Cats and kids aren't really my thing, I'm too shy to be put in those awkward positions by other species. I mean, I'm only a teenager. I'm supposed to be a little antisocial. Now if you come to meet me, I'll be a bit quiet at first, but don't worry, once I get to know you, I'll be your best girlfriend.

Mare Lewiston Nine year old neutered female Irish Setter. "The Red Dog"

Hi there! They're calling me Mare (which is fine), but it's not my real name. Do you know me? Do you know my owner? I really want to go home, but when I left the house I also left behind my collar, tags and identification. I have had my summer cut and am quite ready for the heat so someone must be missing me. I am a senior gal full of wisdom and serenity. I am calm, nonchalant and accepting of anything that comes my way. I may be slow going at the starting gate but hold a moderate stamina through a good portion of the day. It's a bet that I was once very spunky and exuberant as this is the true nature of a Setter. My crazy days are over, but a fenced in yard is a good idea, seeing as I have lost my way this time. I like to travel.

Kids are nice. Adults are nice. Other animals are nice. Like I said, I am accepting of pretty much anything.

Sparky - Westbrook -
Sparky is a lively nine year old female Doberman Pinscher/Golden Retriever mix. Sparky came to the ARL when her family moved to non-pet friendly housing. Sparky had lived with her family since she was just a few weeks old, so her move to the shelter has been a big change. She is a bit worried and missing the only home she ever knew. Like most dogs though, Sparky is eternally hopeful. She happily greets people when they stop at her kennel to visit. Sparky is friendly, a delight to walk on leash and she seems very happy to be out and about. Sparky’s canine-ality is a Meet Your Match ™ Orange Busy Bee. She enjoys playing, is curious and trusting. Sparky will enjoy being given something to do – perhaps a light exercise plan to regain her girlish figure, and keeping her new family company. Sparky will also look forward to spending quality time in the yard with her new family, supervising some gardening perhaps, and lounging in front of a big fan this summer. Sparky’s family included children, and she reportedly watched over them and was gentle. During our evaluation of Sparky, she showed no signs of possessiveness over her food or toys. Sparky is worried about thunderstorms. Sparky’s previous family said Sparky “fits in perfectly with an Italian family,” which must mean she loves good company and good food. That sounds like many of our homes in the southern Maine area. Come meet our lovely grand dame, Sparky!
