The Portland Symphony Orchestra has a long and proud history of bringing the power of live orchestral music to tens of thousands of children and adults throughout New England each year through its Kinderkonzerts and Youth Concerts.

Kinderkonzerts explore the different families of orchestral instruments with children ages four to seven while introducing them to live symphonic music through fun, interactive programs with Portland Symphony musicians.

Kinderkonzert event

Approximately 20,000 schoolchildren per year attend a KinderKonzert event. Four programs, each focusing on a different family of instruments, are held each year at 12 locations throughout southern Maine and New Hampshire. Each Kinderkonzert has a specially prepared worksheet designed to support Maine's Learning Results and the National Standard for the Arts.

School systems can choose to coordinate the Kinderkonzert visit with Science and English Language Arts instruction in addition to Visual and Performing Arts. You can view the 2007-2008 Kinderkonzert schedule here.
